Spring Concert

May 5, 2009

Sometimes music programs don’t get their due at some schools, but last night was Hamilton County’s Jazz Band, Chorus, and Band’s time to take their turn in the spotlight as The Spring Concert was given at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium in McLeansboro, Il.

The Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Jerry Brock-Jones, started things off with three snappy numbers which included solos by Kait Sloan, Ashtynn Braden, and Jacob Norris.

Next up was the Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Marvin Carlton, performing three rousing numbers of their own with sophomore Brooke Robinson starting things off with a solo during We’re All Children of the World.

Rounding out the evening was  the high school Concert Band with four great songs including the finale Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Between numbers Jazz Band, Chorus, and Concert Band seniors were introduced and awards were handed out, including gifts from the students to Mr. Brock-Jones and Mr. Carlton. It was easy to see the true respect and affection the students have for these two gentlemen and the high regard and sense of humor displayed by these two teachers toward their students. Certainly it must be a gratifying feeling seeing some young person with talent,  whether singing or playing an instrument– or both,   developing that talent and knowing you played an important part in it.

Congratulations to all the band and chorus members who worked hard and sacrificed and practiced hard throughout the year. And Good Luck! to Chorus in Ohio next week!

Below are three videos showing highlights from the Spring Concert. Enjoy!
