CarFest trophy presentation

The 2009 Kiwanis CarFest was held Saturday afternoon, June 20th, on the square in McLeansboro, Il bringing together classic car owners and enthusiasts from the local area and also from as far away as Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri to enjoy a great day of looking at cars, talking about cars, showing off cars, swapping car parts and car stories, as well as enjoying some great food and later some great entertainment by the Van-Dells. There was certainly something for everyone to see and appreciate as cars from every automobile era were on display, gleaming shiny and bright on a wonderful (if hot!) Southern Illinois day as hundreds of fans came out to see these awesome things of beauty.

Over 40 trophies were handed out for best of show in various categories, including winners such as Top GM–George Williams for his 1965 Corvette; Top Ford–Joe and Christy  Hamm for their 1966 Shelby GT 350; Top Mopar–Greg and Sherry Evans for their 1969 Dodge Daytona; Top Independent–Larry Gosh for his 1972 Ferrari; Top Street Rod–Kurt Irwin for his 1932 Ford and Top Truck–Rob and Cindy Parks for their 1957 Chevy Pickup. Best of Show Prewar was won by Larry Gosh for his Model A Pickup and Best of Show Postwar was won by Eddie Stevens for his 1963 Plymouth. Hats off to all the participants and congratulations to all the winners.

Special thanks goes out to the McLeansboro Kiwanis organization for promoting another wonderful event for the people of McLeansboro, Hamilton County and surrounding areas and all the event sponsors such as The Peoples National Bank, King’s Auto, Teffertiller Chevrolet, Fender Mender, and others. It’s great to see so much solid leadership for the future  of our town.
