Saturday at Dale Days
August 17, 2008
Wow, what a really nice day it was yesterday at Dale Days. The weather was beautiful, neither too hot or cool, and nary a raincloud in sight. All you had to do was find a little shade and enjoy the sights and sounds of everything going on around you.
The 2008 Dale Days parade started around 5:00 p.m. and was led off in fine fashion by the color guard. Several vehicles of all descriptions, from firetrucks to ATVs to Dep. Fife’s police cruiser, made the circuit throwing out candy to the kids and passing out campaign goodies to the adults, with a fine group of horses bringing up the rear.
After the parade there was a lull in the action–enough time for me to enjoy a lemon shakeup–and as I wandered around I noticed a booth manned by Doris Nelson and her son Ryan representing The Hamilton County Historical Society. Earlier I had been on the computer looking up information about when East Side school was built and here, by sheer coincidence, I had the whole history of Hamilton County schools laid out in pictures and maps before me. Later on I’ll do some posts on this fascinating subject, but suffice to say for now I really enjoyed talking to the Nelsons and I learned a lot in the short time I visited with them.
Around 7:00 Danny and the Dreamers began playing some great music from the 50s and 60s for the crowd. It was such a nice night for this kind of music. You could almost feel yourself transported back to that era. All we needed was some girls in bobby socks and a few guys with ducktails dancing together and the scene would have been complete.
Below I’ve posted 4 separate videos with 2 songs on each video. Be sure to especially check out pt 4 featuring a guest pianist rocking out on Jerry Lee Lewis’s Great Balls of Fire. Enjoy!
