Mom, Dad, and 2 future Lady Foxes

Just about every day I go down to the football field in the evening and run a few laps trying to stay in shape so I can feel like I’ve accomplished something for the day. Today was an exception though.  I did go down to the football field but didn’t run.  I did, however, visit the new basketball and tennis courts that are right beside the football field. Tonight there was a couple with their two young daughters playing basketball. As I approached the courts the oldest girl of maybe three or four years eagerly showed off her beginning dribbling skills. I got to talking to the girls’ parents who told me they saw a sign for the football field facilities down by McDonald’s or they wouldn’t have even known it was there. I wonder if that is the case with most people-that they don’t know it’s there? Let me tell you the basketball and tennis courts are really nice. It’s a shame more people don’t use them. I know it’s been hot and it’s the middle of the summer so I can understand people not wanting to get out from under the air-conditioning (guilty as charged). But I wonder what it would take to organize a tennis tournament or, say, a three-on-three basketball league (A league and B league, of course) for the late summer and early fall months. In any event I’d like to encourage more people to make use of these great courts.   I remember when the other tennis courts were built on the east side of the field back in the seventies. It seemed lots of people played back then and some were actually good. Back then we had to play at West Side school or East Side if we wanted to play some pick-up basketball. I tell you, the kids today have it made…
